Research Activities

The Department is actively involved in the research activities of ISTRA (Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Research Academy)

• Ms. Deepa J Shetty is pursuing her Ph.D. in Microbiology at Agharkar Research Institute, Pune, under the guidance of Dr. P. K. Dhakhephalkar, Scientist E, Microbial Sciences Division, ARI, Pune. She is working on the collaborative Research project entitled ‘Novel Plasmid curing Agents’ at Agharkar Research Institute, Pune.
• T.Y.B.Sc. students, Ms. Sadaf Shaikh, Tehzeeb Shaikh and Iffat Sayyed are working on the Research project ‘Expression studies of Nitroreductase gene under microbial stress using RT-PCR’ under the guidance of Dr. Razia Kutty, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Chemistry, AISC, Pune.
• The Department had organized a meeting with Dr. Padhye, Director, ISTRA on 21^st September 2012. The Department is currently working in the research area of ‘Drug Resistance in Bacteria’. The list of students who would be working on Research projects was given to Dr. Padhye. A meeting of these students with Dr. Padhye is arranged on 24th September 2012.
• Ms. Sabratunnisa Shaikh, (T.Y.B.Sc.) is working on the Research project ‘Identification and isolation of non-lactose fermenting organisms associated with diarrhea collected from stool samples of HIV infected and non infected patients’ at  National AIDS Research Institute, Pune under the guidance of Mrs. Sangita Kulkarni,NARI,Pune.
• Ms. Tarannum Khan (S.Y.B.Sc) is working on the Research Project ‘Oxidative stress on DNA repair’ at Dept of Zoology, S.P. College, Pune under the guidance of Dr. Manisha Modak.
